Tarun Sawhney
Chairman of CII-Bio Energy CII Task Force, India
Mr. Tarun Sawhney is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of (TEIL) Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd. TEIL is amongst the largest fully integrated sugar and alcohol manufacturers in India and a market leader in its engineering businesses, comprising of high-speed gears, gearboxes, naval defence solutions and water treatment solutions.
Mr. Sawhney is a Director of Triveni Turbines Limited, one of the leading manufacturers of industrial steam turbines upto 100 MW globally.
Mr. Sawhney is the past President of ISMA (Indian Sugar Mills Association). He is a past Chairman of ISEC (Indian Sugar Exim Corporation Limited). He is a member of the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) National Council and Chairman, CII Rural and District Economy Council and Co-Chairman, CII Task Force on Bio-Energy (including Ethanol) and Chairman of CII Task Force on Sugar. He has been conferred the Industry Excellence Award for contributions to the sugar industry by the Hon. President of India, Smt. Pratibha Rao Patil.
Mr. Sawhney graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, UK, and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is a member of the Indian Public School’s Society (IPSS) and has been on the governing committee of the Oxford & Cambridge Society of India. He is also the current President of the Doon School Old Boys’ Society. He is presently a member of the International Advisory Council of the Tate Modern Museum (UK).
Mr. Sawhney is also a trustee of the Tirath Ram Shah Hospital in New Delhi, which is one of India’s oldest charitable hospitals.
